Nice Little Shot of Del Moro

David sent me this shot a long time ago and I just found it again. It was a series that got sent off to SurfLine. I'm not sure if this one ever made it up there or not but it was one of my favorites. Enjoy.

Quad Fin - Yellow

Kipp and his two daughters.

Kipp stopped by today to show off his latest garage creation.  It is a 5'10.5" yellow resin tent quad fish he made for his friend Yoshi. Yoshi really wanted a yellow board with a lightening bolt on it.  I really like it. I really wanted to ride this one! Yoshi... once you get some wax on her can I take her out?

I have been featuring Kipp a lot as I am really impressed with what the guy can do out of a small space in his garage and with minimal set up. He is totally self taught and has confessed that he does this all with a very limited shaping and glassing environment. I think he embodies the old school spirit of board building.  Armed with some determination and natural skill he is able to build with his own two hands what the rest of us can only buy. And, he does this all while taking care of his two daughters. Which, as any of you dads know, that is a huge job in itself.

To make it even cooler the boards even work. Erik has been test piloting them and can't get enough. Every time Erik sees Kipp pull up with a new board he is over seeing if he can ride them.

Rare Find Old Canyon Fish

Here is a rare find.  Chris was hanging out with Murphy and one of Murph's good friends Mikey Brooker came in with an old Canyon fish shaped by Rusty. I think it was numbered 105. Mikey found the board under a friend's house.  What a find indeed. A little piece of history for sure. I wonder if he'll let us ride it?

Mini Fin

Dan from the Murphy Ranch made some really cool mini fins for us from the wood blocks he been making.  We could take our pick. This is the one I got.  Thanks, Dan!

Beach Clean Up a Success

Lots of families showed up for the cleanup.

Mom showing the next generation how it's done.

Greg, a Coop Ct. resident and Beacons local taking time out of his surf day to pitch in.

Brad Hanson pitching in to help out.

Rodney McCoubrey local Environmental Artist and founder of Fish for Thought.

Troop 1177 brought in a bunch of trash and had the pleasure of watching Rodney build a fish in front of them.

This fish was made by Rodney and later given to Bob and Jan Rogers for their effort in organizing the beach clean up. Every bit of the trash came from that day. The Smash Ball paddle was brought up in one batch and the ball (used for the eye) was brought up in another.

This fish was made by trash brought up by Browny Troop 1177.

Stats:
187 lbs of trash.
66 Volunteers
29 lbs of Recycling
Most unusual find... Rodney

All and all a great day.  We all pitched in, cleaned up and surfed afterwards. Thanks to those who showed up and thanks to those of you who pick up every day on your way back from surfing. Every bit counts and I'd have to say it shows that our locals care about their beaches. We are blessed with some of the cleanest beaches in the county.

RM Sequence at Cardiff

David snapped this nice little sequence yesterday. Apparently both confirming and overcoming his curse of the Machado shot. Apparently David has been skunked every other time he has tried to shoot Rob. Bad lighting, bad timing,  you name it it has happen.

Yesterday he and David's friend saw Rob paddle out and David conceded to his friend that he will never get a shot of him and told the story about all the times he attempted only to be skunked. He told his friend that he had a rare Machado curse upon him and he didn't dare even try.  His friend called BS and talked him into shooting anyway.

They had to walk a few hundred yards to get in a good spot.  David, who was second guessing his own curse, thought to himself, today was the day.  He saw Rob take off and he hit rapid fire.  The camera shut off with a dead battery. The curse continues... Luckily for David it wasn't all lost. He was able to go home, charge up and get these shots off his camera.

10 Little Piggies Hanging Out At Cardiff

It is funny, with all the surf images we see we get sort of jaded. I flip through magazines or online and just think to myself... NEXT.

It even took me a while to fully appreciate this shot. I looked at it, thought it was cool and then dismissed it as yet another nose ride.

Then I sat back, stared at it and realized... that guy has some serious talent. I can count on one closed fist the number of times I've ever been able to pull that off.

Then I stared at it a little more and was even more impressed by the fact that it's a great shot. I love how it has this mood to it and he just looks suspended in the moment of the wave and his thoughts. Again, I can count on a closed fist the number of times I shot a photo like that!

At this point I was in a moment of clarity and fully appreciated the value of the the talent in our water and on land.  It was a humbling and refreshing experience.

Thanks to the unknown talent and of the shot of him sent in by David for making me stop and appreciate for a change.

A Little More Wax Art

Ok, so I got inspired again. This time with the help of Alia.  I was itching to do some more wax art and this is what came out of me. It doesn't really look like Alia but it was the best I can do. She loves it. She asks to see it all the time.

New Blog In Town - Collectic Life

There is a new blog in town.  Leucadia local, free surfer, and self proclaimed webhead nerd squat Chris Del Moro is on the scene with his own flavor of blog called the Collectic Life. Only up for a month now it quite entertaining, covering his travels, misc thoughts and some really cool how to board art.  We've added it to our blog list and look forward to seeing future posts. Enjoy.

Miss Anne's New Ride - 5'9" Roy Sanchez Quad

Miss Anne with fresh boardage.

Anne is know for her home made and funky laminates. This board is no different. Her and Kirk love garden gnomes so she put him on the task of making this gnome riding a rabbit.

Sporting the TLP logo!

Another classic laminate.

Anne does water testing for a living. Here is the hard hat she wears at work.

You can tell that Daisy is just as excited as Anne.

Miss Anne called all excited today about her new board. Erik hooked her up with his friend Roy Sanchez of O'Side. Roy used to shape for Rusty and is on his own with his current label that is self titled. This board is a 5'9" double wing speed dialer quad. It felt really nice to hold. I look forward to trying it out.

Share Day - Video Stills By Mick Waters

Any of you who have kids in preschool know about share day.  That wondrous day where your child gets to bring something they love to school to show their friends. It is a great day. The kids love it and it teaches them to show others what it is they do or hold dear to their hearts.

Today was share day here at the project.  I got an email this morning from Mick over at Little House of a bunch of stills he made from the footage he has been gathering for his new film. Apparently the surf has been really good lately in AU and Mick has been taking advantage of it. It's probably not hard but see if you can guess who these shots are of. Enjoy.
