Starting tonight at midnight Korduroy is showing the audience's 5 favorite short films from Sacred Craft. They will only be up for 24 hours.
4 of the 5 films were made specifically for this event and none of them have ever been seen publicly on the web. Richard Kenvin's got an amazing short about riding blocks of foam, Tyler Manson's got a nice piece on Terry Martin, I've got a short about a couple kids getting barreled with a tarp, Banden Arroyan's got a killer short about Rincon featuring Kelly Slater shaping and riding his own boards and Jeremy Asher Lynch has an ubber cool short on Andrew Doheny and friends shaping and shredding.

Cheryl Sorg Global Freeze Project Sat. April 17th
Local artist/activist Cheryl Sorg has been speaking out in her art against the problem of Human Trafficking and Sex Slavery. She has done numerous pieces on this subject and is now hosting a Global Freeze Project this Saturday the 17th at 12pm at Fashion Valley Mall. See here for details.
The Glogal Freeze project is a non-intrusive method of raising awareness for a cause that leaves the people surrounded by the event inspired instead of fearing for their safety.
Here's the Basic Concept:
For our Freeze Project moments, we would like to draw a couple of hundred people at a time to participate in drawing attention to some of the social injustices of the world. Instead of protesting, we would like to create an experience that is fun, non-intrusive (in your face activism), and inclusive. We believe that we could use “the Freeze” to draw attention in a crowd, which will then be followed up with a brief handout to people about a particular social injustice in the world.
How a Freeze Project Moment Looks:
- Participants will be asked to show up a designated time and place.
- Participants will then proceed to the “Freeze” space and blend themselves into a crowd as if they were regulars in that particular environments (e.g., malls, events, outdoor shopping areas, etc.).
- A cue will be given by the director of the Freeze moment.
- Participants will then stop what they were doing and stay frozen for the next 5 minutes until they receive another cue telling them that the freeze is over.
- Following the freeze, participants will handout a couple of print material each to people observing them (with or without conversation).
- That’s it! Enjoy the rest of the day at the venue where the Freeze takes place.

Tie Dye Resin Tent Handplane By Kipp Denslow
Here's the latest broken board handplane by Kipp that came from the Iron Cross. Complete with tie dye resin tent and pin-line. I have to admit that these handplanes are addicting. It's sort of crazy you get that new board rush even though they are just over a foot long.
Kipp and I will be at Sacred Craft tomorrow with these so if see us around stop us to check them out.

Well I guess the one thing that I'll always remember about Kit was his stoke all the way til the end he LOVED surfing he loved the glide the excitement the raw stoke we all enjoy in the water.
I remember one summer being in line at Henry's market shopping and I ran into kit and his lovely wife and he got all wide eyed and started going on about the coming south swell and how warm the water was with the gleam of a grom and yet he was well into his 70's.
He was allways a gentleman in the water, complimented you on a good ride, and hooted as he shared a good one. When he spoke he exuded intelligence and a special kind of generosity.
I guess most of all I wished many other local surfers could have spent more time getting to know one of Waiamea's pioneers and a unique true elder from our north county surfing tribe. A gladiator of good will and stoke he will be missed in the lineup and in the community.
Kit hopefully I'll ride many a good wave for you in the years to come and share them with all the Leucadia tribe... Enjoy da ride adios hermano...

Lost Heritage: The Dorymen of Cardiff by Robert Wald
Robert Wald, the founder and editor of Ocean Magazine, is having an exhibit at the Encinitas Library. Anyone who has seen Ocean Mag can appreciate Robert's contribution to our local community. Packed with relevant stories of our local watermen/waterwomen, it's one of the few really good free local magazines that I pick up to read. Here is the info below. More Foam for Handplanes
Thanks to Phil Gonzalez we have more foam for our handplane project. Phil, a longtime Leucadia local, hooked us up with a buckled circa 1996 Iron Cross 9'0. The board will yield a good bounty of foam for plenty of handplane fun. For his generosity Phil received our last Leucadia Project tee and a couple of wax buddies. Not a bad score for an old board destine to be dumped.
The bonus was that the board was shaped by our good friend Dennis Murphy. It was board number 7087 in fact. The cool thing is that once we get the board milled down to handplane blanks we are going to get Dennis to shape his own version. It will be pretty cool to see him shape the same foam he shaped 14 years earlier! I'm looking forward to trying it out.
If you have a broken board and would like to donate it, give us a shout. We'll dig through our goody bag and hook you up with something for your generosity.

Broken Board Handplanes by Kipp Denslow
For a while now I have been thinking about what to do with the countless broken boards I see at the beach and in peoples yards. Boards that will never see water again and will eventually end up in the land fill.
The idea of these once beloved boards ending up in the trash just because they got snapped bugged me. It was a waste for one and cruel to a board that was once free and spent its time in the water.
After some thought and some inspiration from Cyrus Sutton, Danny Hess and Brown Fish for their wood handplanes, Kipp Denslow and I started playing with the idea of turning these old boards into something new. Something that we could reshape into a new beloved friend of the wave riding persuasion.
The result of this project was something that has completely opened my mind to a new world of wave riding. The goal to save broken boards turned into something much more. It turned into fun!
With Kipp as the shaper and glasser and me as the broken board hunter and test pilot we are setting out to clean up the landfills and have fun while doing it. So if you have a broken board and it will go into the trash, give us a shout and we will take it off your hands. Who knows, maybe you'll see that board again in the water someday?

Tangelo Fish by Rodney McCoubrey
Inspired by his tangelo tree he works next to in his back yard, Rodney made this piece as a tribute to the beauty of the color orange and especially the tangerine pearlescence that his fruit emanates in early morning sunlight with dew on it.
It's a big one at almost 40 inches wide and it's for sale. Made from street sweeper blades, camper shell skin, old nails, recycled plywood, love and lots of tangelo munchin.
