Rodney Fish - Enjoy Broken Board Handplane

Local Bob King and his son Gus picked up their handplane today. This board is special to me. It came from the Murphy's Iron Cross. It was the first one I shaped. Kipp of course did a great glass job on it and my good friend Rodney McCoubrey painted it up. The pictures don't even do it justice. It is a work of art for sure.

Thank you Bob and Gus for supporting our efforts! Thank you everyone who have been sending us boards as well. We have saved 5 boards so far and have had a heap of fun doing it.

Thank You GoPro!!!!!

GoPro contacted us after seeing the posts on the Enjoy Handplanes and sent us a GoPro HD to start filming with! I was so blown away by their generosity. How often does that happen? Thank you Rick for being inspired, seeing the value in what we are doing and helping us pursue our passion. We are forever grateful!

And because I was so stoked I couldn't help but document the whole process. Here's how it went down.

Sometime around 3pm I came home to a package on my door.
(Ohhhh the sight of a fresh package with GoPro goodness in it!)

Upon receipt of the package I instantly took it to our photo studio, a.k.a the old park bench in the back yard.

There I carefully cut my way in and documented the grand opening of the delivery apparatus (a.k.a the card board box.) like it was the opening of a Pharaoh's tomb.

I then placed the camera in all it's glory on the photo studio's main product display and marveled at all it's beauty.

I smiled and heard the soft sound of ahhhhh play gently in my head. As I was left in a moment of silence I then thought of all the POV barrels shots I hope to get on HD!

Sign up to be a Vendor at Encinitas Environment Day

This week is the last chance to sign up to be a vendor at Encinitas Environment Day.

If you have an environmentally sound business you should be there. Last year 3000 people showed up to support the event and all with a passion for buying green. Don’t lag though as last year they turned people away for being sold out. Booths are inexpensive ranging from $45 to $75.

Questions re: the event can be answered via the site http://www.eeday.org or from our friend Anne at srfdncr(at)aol.com

See everyone there.

Also if you like the graphic for the event. Our very own Jaime Di Dio Aoyama did that that!

Erik Baldwin's - Enjoy Broken Board Handplane

Our good friend Erik has been a huge supporter from day one and has been hooking us up with a bunch of foam and giving us some great feedback. Yesterday we hooked him up with his very own Erik Baldwin B&W Model.  If you have ever seen Erik's boards the black and white fits right into his quiver.

Last night we both got a chance to take her for a spin and had a blast. I haven't heard him laugh so hard after a ride in a long time. He was stoked. It was really fun to watch. I was stoked!

We made this one with a GoPro mount as well. Our camera is coming any day and we'll see what kinds of situations he can get himself into. This will be fun to watch.

Thanks Erik for helping us out and I'm glad you like the Handplane! Enjoy!

Surfy Surfy Event Was a Blast

Boards boards and more boards.  They have some many AMAZING BOARDS!!!!!

The place was packed from start to finish and the vibe was great. Our very own master of all things swallowtail and hull, Manuel Carro was honorary DJ for the event.

Manuel has his own nook in the space which I thought was cool. It was like looking into the window of his mind.

Oh, and they have a Surfy Surfy tee for sale that I drew up for them based off of our TLP logo! If you buy one a portion of the proceeds go to help support my blogging habit. Please buy one. I have a bad habit.

Flower Power Event a Success

Rodney sent these over with a note one what went down. Enjoy.

Fun went down and plenty of it the whole thing came of without a hitch. A superb group of worker bees showed up 6ish am and started right in stick'n bamboo sticks in the ground then flowers were quickly added some higher some lower it was if we'd cast a handful of psychedelic flower seeds into the breeze and ever so gently they landed, sprouted and gave birth to an amazing bunch of sacred buds of beauty...Somehow I equate it all sometime there are commercial acts and sometimes human acts. And this definitely was a human act, a community of parents children and those whom showed up by surprise. Watching kids arrive searching for their flower taking a pic with it.. surfers strolling through the field of 350 flowers doing this is cool keepin it out of the ocean. Little tike's touch'n play'n laugh'n as they meandered through the maze of color and texture were testament that WE had pulled off an inspirational event. The sun was out surf was up and did i mention we all had FUN

Peace, Rodney McCoubrey

Blue Horizon - GoPro Ready - Enjoy Broken Board Handplane

We're calling this one Blue Horizon. This is the first of many Kipp and I started collaborating on. Many more are on the way. I have been doing a bunch of shaping and helping out with the glass jobs as well. I love resin tints. This one we experimented with and did it right on the foam. It came out really cool. You see every nook and cranny in the foam as it fills in with the resin and darkens up. It looks like watercolors. Amazing in the sunlight. The pictures don't do it justice.

Again this one is made to be a GoPro POV tube machine. All it needs is a tube hungry test pilot, a GoPro and a little south swell.  Contact us if you'd like to own her.

Latest Enjoy Handplane - GoPro Ready

Here's the latest addition to my quiver. Enjoy Broken Board Handplane #5 by Kipp Denslow.

I've been getting some really fun waves with this one from the outside all the way into these little inside barrels.

This one I'm really excited about because we are developing it for water shooting with a GoPro camera. We added an FCS mount to the nose so we can attach one.  This one is designed with a bit more foam so that when you are swimming it stays on top of the water rather then sinking.  It works really good as your arm stays afloat and it doesn't get tired from trying to hold up the board and camera while you shoot your buddy. It also works great around here because it lets you plane like crazy through the flat sections to get those inside POV barrels shots.

If you have a GoPro and want to try one of these out contact us. I'd love to see what kind of shots you get.

Beacons Beach Clean Up

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Beacons beach clean up yesterday. Yet again it was a success.  A total of 58 people showed up to clean and were able to pull 42 pounds of trash and 5 pounds of recycling off the beach. (That's a lot of Styrofoam, cigarette butts and water bottle caps!)

One of the great things I saw was that families showed up in force and took the opportunity to teach their kids about recycling, keeping their beaches clean and working together. A lesson that will help insure our beaches stay clean.

If you happen to notice today how sparkly clean Beacons is this morning give a special thanks to our friends Jan and Bob Rogers for all the hard work they put into organizing these clean ups.  They have been at this for 12 years and started with a total of 7 people showing up at their first event. (That includes them!) They model for all of us how to put the community first even when the surf is good! (Bob, you get points my friend!)

Also, these events are a couple times a year and yet our beaches are still some of the cleanest in the county. Why? Because we have a lot of dedicated locals who care and pick up trash that is not their own every single day of the week as they come back from surfing and walking. These individuals are mostly responsible for the regular maintenance of our beaches and it shows. Good work to all, I thank you for your hard work.

See you at the next event.

Flower Power - Recycled art Project in Del Mar Saturday

Del Mar Hills Academy and our very own environmental artist Rodney McCoubrey  are hosting a Recycled Art Exhibit event called Flower Power

It will be held at the Del Mar Power House Park on 15th Street. All are welcome to attend.  With the help of Rodney, the students of the school created over 300 flowers decorated from recycled materials they each collected for their own piece. All 300 will be displayed in the grass and each is mounted on re-barb which will sway in the wind like a real garden.  I got to see a mini display at Rodney's studio and it was really amazing.

The event starts a 8am and goes until 3pm.
