What I'm Watching - Riding Waves by Cyrus Sutton
Seven years ago I watched this film when it first came out. It was really good and came from an unknown young filmmaker named Cyrus Sutton. A guy who I 'd never heard of. Watched it and was blown away. First discovered the magic of John Peck and Dane Reynolds in this film. We all know who Cyrus is today. It's fun to watch his early work. Check it out, it's only $7 this week at www.thesurfnetwork.com.

The Frankensuit 4/3
For those of you who have seen 180 Degrees South you'll remember a scene when they show the divers in Chile with the swim fins put together like they are for Frankenstein. I have to admit that scene stayed with me as in our throw away culture the sight of those fins still in use and put together with so much care moved me. It made me think of what I could use longer. So in the spirit of that I have decided to attempt my own Frankenstienian repair job to my beloved 4/3. She is 4 seasons old now and has given me some of the best cold water sessions of my life.
Today I patched her up with some extra neoprene for the decayed patch and a bunch of glue for the split seems. (Wonderful ladies at Swell Stuff, masters of wetsuit repair... look away it is very ugly.) Although I thought I was done with her and destined to be recycled into handplane handles desperation has set in with a 7am bodysurfing session scheduled tomorrow. With the 3/2 wet and barely holding it's own in the 53ish water the Frankensuit is getting called into action. Please don't fail me now!
Hopefully she is still going strong tomorrow. If not, with the cold water, it is time to start looking at some new eco suits out there to take her place for the next 4 sessions. Can anyone recommend a good one?

Happy New Year from Tak and Jaime
In Japan, people exchange New Year's cards that usually feature the animal from the Chinese Zodiac for the new year.
Tak, being Japanese, has kept the tradition alive since moving to the States with Jaime. Rabbits surfing on carrot boards--here's hoping for good waves and a warm summer in 2011.

Happy New Year and Happy Belated Birthday to The Leucadia Project
(A look back at the different banners we've had along the way.)
I got sort of distracted this year with all the holiday stuff that I missed the second birthday of my dear friend The Leucadia Project. The TLP has been an amazing ride for me and it is hard for me to believe that it has already been 2 years since it was born into our community.
This project was created out of pure chance really. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I had no idea that I would be obsessed with posting and sharing what our wonderful community was up to and all the amazing things we as a collective soul would find inspiring.
Now that I look back I am amazed at what was created here. It is a space that is a place of refuge for me, a place that I can pour positive energy into and watch how it comes back to me, and others, who participate.
Here is to The Leucadia Project, Happy 2nd birthday my friend. May you live a long positive life and share inspiration into the New Year and years to come.

Enjoy Leftover Resin for Christmas
In the spirit of Enjoy we have made some cool ornaments out of the leftover resin from the bottom of Kipp's resin cups. For those of you not familiar with the glassing process there is always a little resin leftover after you glass a surfboard (or handplane in our situation). Historically these leftovers have been seen as trash and were thrown away. But not anymore! We think these little beauties are just too cool to throw out. Now they can live a happy life on your Christmas Tree each year and avoid the smelly dump!
If you'd like one of these festive little resin wonders, stop by Surfy Surfy Surf Shop to pick one up. JP will be handing them out like candy to good little surfboard loving boys and girls. Hurry though kids, we dropped off a batch last night and they are already gone as they are free and will go fast! We'll drop off more today in time for the Surfy Surfy Jaz night so get one while you listen to the smooth sounds of Surfy Jaz.
Stay tuned for more fun things we are doing with our leftovers in 2011!

Eat no Evil
I have to give some love to Chris Angell of Angell Bars. I love what he is doing. I met him at Sacred Craft a while back and we reconnected and he sent me some of his organic and certified fair trade candy bars to try out. So far I have had the coconut white chocolate one and it is really good!! Right after I post this the dark chocolate and almond is a goner.
Chris you are doing good in this world my friend. Keep it up.
If you want them for some stocking stuffers you can get them at the Pannikin here in town or at Lockwood table (Solana Beach), Boney's in Oceanside, and Pangea in Del Mar.
If you're a shop owner give Chris a ring. He can always use another vender to help spread the organic fair trade love.
Seriously though, if you're going to eat candy bars why not eat one that's not evil? I'm just say'n, evil sucks.

Summery Loggery - by Nathan Oldfield
Sing it now...
Santa baby, slip a 4/3 under the tree, for me
I've been an awful good boy indeed
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight
Santa baby, a Steve Lis Fish shaped just for me, light blue
I'll wait up for you
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight
Think of all the rights I've missed
Think of all the lips that I haven't kissed
Next year I could be oh so good
If you'd check off my Christmas list
Boo doo bee doo

Dear Super Cool Girlfriends and Wives
Dear Super Cool Girlfriends and Wives,
Thank you so much for ordering before the 11th, just in time for us to make a handplane for you to put under the tree. You are amazing. You spend your days working hard at work or with the kids (or both!) and barely have enough time to get your own needs met, and yet, you found the time to go to the enjoyhandplanes.com website and place an order for something that will not benefit you directly but you know will bring a tear to your man's eye Christmas Morning. We respect that about you. You are so thoughtful like that.
You are amazing,
*Enjoy Handplanes

Save the Yoga Swami Yurt
For those of you who don't know the Yoga Swami Yurt is in jeopardy of being taken down.
Here is a video explaining the situation and a link to learn more on how to help.
Envirosurfer
Jared Moore(left) and Brandon Moyles (right) are the co-founders of Cardiff based online eco friendly surf shop store called Envirosurfer.
Envirosurfer pushed Avila to create a more eco-friendly surfboard, utilizing resources that were already currently available.
Foam - Marko Envirofoam is the world's first 100% recycled EPS foam core. The Content consists of EPS blank scraps collected from post consumer and post industrial EPS sources. The reformulation process accepts a variety of materials such as packaging material for computers, electronic equipment stereos, toys, etc. Instead of going to waste at a landfill, it can all be recycled into Envirofoam and reused.
Glass - It’s a low viscosity, ambient cure bio‐based liquid epoxy system that’s 55% derived
from natural, renewable resources such as industrial waste pine and vegetable oils.
Hemp Tail Patch - Sustainable resource with practically bullet proof strength.
Fins - Rainbow Bamboo fins. One of nature's most sustainable natural resources.
Pretty cool I must say. Good jobs guys!!!
