Carl Ekstrom's new logo. The story is that Pierce was filming Carl for an interview and he showed Pierce a check from Andy Warhol for a board Carl had made for him. Carl kept the check all these years as he loved the idea that Andy hand signed his name. Pierce's eyes lit up and said he should use it as his new logo.

Sacred Craft Eco Trailer Package for Manufacturing Stoke

I'm having the pleasure of traveling with Pierce and Petra Kavanagh to Sacred Craft to walk the show and for the two of them to promote their new film Manufacturing Stoke. When I awake this morning I couldn't help but be stoked on what they where making to pass out at the show. In the spirt of changing the way the surf industry consumes, Petra came up with the idea to make envelopes of recycled surf mags and faux DVD's out of shopping bags with their web address on it. My hat goes off to them for such a cool idea.

I'll be taking photos of Sacred Craft again this year and will post highlights after the show!  Stay tuned.

Manufacturing Stoke

Our friend Pierce Kavanagh of misfit pictures is making a documentary on sustainability in the surf industry called Manufacturing Stoke.

We first met Pierce at the Cardiff Classic Green Fair where after meeting a host of green surf companies had a spark of inspiration and the idea for this film was born.

Pierce, who recently graduated from film school went home that night with the idea for the film and proceeded to put a crew together to take on the task. Originally set to be a small web piece, the film suddenly took on a life of it's own and quickly gained attention from companies and personalities in the industry who had a thing or two to say about the subject. In the end there are some 30 plus interviews and 80 hours of film on the subject all of which have been kept under wraps as to who they all are and what they have said. It will be interesting to see how it all comes together and what these industry leaders have to say on such a pertinent subject.

As for the the trailer, which was released last night, it is a monumental step for Pierce and his indie crew Petra Kavanagh, Max Schmige, Geoffrey Smart and Sara Iyer who have been working nonstop for months now.

I personally can't wait to see how the project all comes together and to finally see who everyone is that was filmed and what was said.

Pierce, Petra, Max, Geoffrey, Sara congratulations my friends and good luck!

Sending Our Love To Japan

My sister lives in Japan with her husband and three kids. My Brother-in-law just happen to board a plane to the US the day before the quake and is now here while his family is there. I tough one for a loving father and husband.

So far so good for them but there are so many Japanese that are having a hard time. She sent me this link this morning about the Japanese and I was inspired. All she said in her email was "This is So True!". They are are model for us in deed.

If you have a moment each day take a minute and say to yourself, "I Love You Japan". Thoughts and words are powerful and especially those with messages of love. In times like these we can all feel a bit helpless but doing something so simple and sending a loving message can make a world of difference.

I Love You Japan.

New Environmental Art Show Coming to Town- Sacred Alters

From the mind of Eco Artist Rodney "Rodrigo" McCoubrey comes a group show about the things that make our lives worth living. For the show Rodney handpicked a group of local talent to make alters of things they feel are sacred in their lives. Each piece is to be made of at least 25% recycled materials from their own environment. We have created a blog for the project and will be posting the entries as they are completed so keep an eye on it to see what people come up with.

If you'd like to make your own Sacred Alter at home please do and send pictures of them to us and we'll post them here. The more the merrier. This is a healing subject and one that is great for everyone of all ages to participate in.

First up is Genie Huey and her piece titled "Dog". Genie is a Leucadia resident and an amazing artist. I was blown away by the piece. Enjoy

An Ode to the White Fence

Circa 1925 the famous White Fence was built on a stretch of bluff in this here Lecuadia-- a sacred spot known to it's locals for it's gift of extra ordinary aquatic fun.  Our friend, eco artist and perfectionist of the white fence aquatic dance, Rodney Rodrigo McCoubrey was able to save a piece before it was torn down and make this keepsake. He keeps it with him while he works so that he is never too far away from the place he loves. To a water dwelling Lecuadian this is a treasure indeed.

Ruby Starr Gets Stoked

There is no better feeling as a surf stoked parent then to see your child in the water, catching waves and having fun. There is no better feeling then knowing you are giving to your child the same skills and stoked that has fueled your life.

The star off this home movie is Assuie filmmaker Mick Waters' daughter Ruby Starr Waters. Mick is a friend of ours and I know how pumped he is to have his daughter in the water with him and catching waves. Ruby is the oldest of 3 and I must say she is having an amazing life so far. Not only is she a sprouting surf grom but she has already been featured in her dad's latest film Little Black Wheels, which if you saw you couldn't help but fall in love with her. Congrats to you Ruby on starting your life as a water girl!!!  And Mick, I know you have a perma-grin on your face my friend, well done.
