Driftwood and Surf Wax Shark by Chris Miller

Chris Miller and his drift wood, wax and leaf shark. I have to admit it put a smile on my face. Great work, Chris! I really dig the leaf tail fin. Very creative. I think having one for Rodney's  Fish at your house has really inspired you.

For your efforts you score a brand new Wax Buddy . But you have to come up and surf with me to pick it up.

Chris Miller Enjoyed Empty Waves this Weekend

My friend and fellow blogger Chris Miller enjoyed some empty lefts over the weekend. He was so stoked he sent me a photo to rub it in.

If you don't know Chris, he is one of those guys you love to surf with. He is always game to go out and has a good vibe in the water.

Thanks for rubbing it in Chris! Nice little shot as well.

Not sure who the photo is by but thanks!

Chris' TLP 7'8" Murphy

Hanna running for her life.

Chris surprised me with a TLP laminate.

Chris showing some love for his new ride.

Chris stopped by with a new 7'8" Murphy. Dennis' 15,132 shape. He brought a board just like this to Fiji and ended up  leaving it behind as payment for boat access.  It was a hard call but a mans got to do what a mans got to do. The board worked liked magic there so he had to replace it.  He was like a little kid. Thoughts of some secret spots in Fiji kept filling his mind.

More from the Murphy Ranch - Fins

My Favorite fin block of all.  One of Dan's creations.

The tool of choice.  Band saw.  It was sitting there in all it's glory. I couldn't resist.

Alia's favorite place of all was the shaping bay. She was fascinated with two things. First was the foam and the next were the fin blocks. Here she is playing with both.  As her usual artistic  self she quickly assembled the fin blocks to make this heart.

Dan explains to Chris how he makes the fin blocks. Really time consuming and amazing work.

Another fin by Dan.

Our trip to the Murphy Ranch was amazing.  It was also a little overwhelming. There was so much going on. We had the Grain board, Dennis' personal quiver (we'll get to that later) and lots and lots of stories.  One of my favorite things though were the fin blocks that Dan Lewis is making. He has found a true passion for fins and as you can see he is coming up with some amazing designs. Enjoy.

Dave Rastafinish O'FISHL 3.5" side fin by Chris Miller

Here is the most well thought out fin we have had to date. Chris Miller and long time lover of the Leucadia rights sent me this fin and the letter below. Enjoy.

The inspiration for this came from shear boredom while cleaning my garage cabinets (while listening to Burning Spear).  O'FISHL 3.5" side fin.  I call this fin "Dave Rastafinish" in salute to these ocean users.

Dave:  for the talented local photographer Dave Gray.
Rasta: for Rastafari, reggae music and incredible wave rider Dave Rastavich (Ed's hero).
Fish: rhymes with Vich, for O'Fishl fins and for Ed's fascination with everything Fish related.
The fin is also a reminder of my old, all-time favorite Murphy 9'-0" - always waiting for me in Guerrero, Mex.

I pray my surfing abilities outweigh my art "skills"!

Old School

Here is one I like of Chris.  He has this great mix of old school and progressive surfing. This is him in old school mode.

Style Master

Here is one of Chris Miller that I love.  It is a small day but you see how lost he is in the moment of watching that aqua green water slide over the reef.  I was out that day.  It was amazing how clear and beautiful the water was. Chris has a great laid back style. You will see more of him for sure. Photo courtesy of David Gray
