Local Lucas Foster - Finished 4th NSSA Longboard Nationals

I've known Lucas since he was one. He was my next door neighbor.  I watched him grow up and his dad and I would wonder if he'd get into surfing or blow it off since "the old man did it". It can go either way.

Well, he's all grown up and the guessing is over. He likes to surf. I was so stoked to hear that he did so well at the NSSA finals this last weekend. He is just a freshman so he has plenty of time to work his way up to number one. His dad couldn't be more stoked. He loves the events and is a self proclaimed "Stage Mom".

Not only can Lucas surf but the kid is a genius. He gets great grades and is on the debate team. When he was 5 or so he would beat grownups online in world domination strategy games.

Now that the contests are over he is on to the next thing, shaping. He, his younger brother Logan and his brother's best friend Sean Turbeville (all under 14) are starting to shape. They are stoked on it. They are under the guidance of one of Lecuadia's long time shapers John Turbeville. John made boards for me for years and I still ride them. He's stopped production shaping and is now stoked to teach the kids how to do it.

Lucas, it has been a pleasure to watch you grow up, my friend, and do so well in life and surfing. Keep it up!

If you follow the Foster Surf Adventures blog you'll know that Logan made it to his first NSSA final. I'm so stoked for him and his brother Lucas who I've known since birth and are turing out to be great surfers. They have both blown me away at there abilities. Way to go Logan!!!

My Man Logan Foster

Here is a nice, all be it blurry, sequence of 12 year old Logan Foster. Erik has been coaching him and he is really taking off.  The photos are from his dad Aaron. Any of you who know Aaron know that these shots are a miracle.  We have many stories of how David and I have taken amazing photos or video of Aaron and, although he means well, does not return the favor. (I have a video of nothing but ants and sand as he got the on off button reversed on a decent shoulder high day.) I proudly put this up as an acknowledgement of how far Aaron has come.

I've known Logan since he was born. Our families were tied together and bonded through the love of Grandview.  We spent many swells sharing waves. Logan was my buddy and would come over to my house a lot with his brother Lucas. As they grew up Aaron and I would talk about how amazing it will be when they surf.

After seeing these photos I flashed back to one day when Logan came over to my house to give me a "Presentation".  He had come well prepared for a 7 year old, complete with drawings and a pie chart. (Aaron was a sales rep and was famous for his pie charts.) When he came over he started to pitch me on how he wanted a skate park in his back yard. He told me that if I built one for him he would give me a percentage of his first million when he turned pro. Unfortunately Logan was barking up the wrong tree.  He had no idea my skills with a hammer were meager at best, so I congratulated him on a fine presentation and sent him on his way. Now, after seeing these photos... I should have done it.
